Scars

Scars form when the dermis (deep, thick layer of skin) is damaged. The body forms new collagen fibers (a naturally occurring protein in the body) to mend the damage, resulting in a scar. The new scar tissue will have a different texture and quality than the surrounding tissue.

Scars occur from traumatic injury or surgical Every scar is unique and has different structural properties that will continue to change and form for up to two years.

Our scar treatment is a multidimensional approach. From acne scars to surgical ones we develop sophisticated treatment plans to help improve their appearance.

The optimization of one’s scar appearance starts early. We recommend the use of a quality silicone-based gel as well as daily sun protection. These two are the most evidence based ways to optimize your scar outcomes.
